Dashboards & Latency Matrices

These pre-built availability and performance dashboards and latency matrices provide quick access to comprehensive historical and real-time analytics derived from our continuous cloud service testing. These reports offer insights into service availability patterns, performance trends, and latency characteristics across multiple cloud providers and regions. Each report includes time-bound analysis spanning from 1 day to 1 year, with customizable views, bookmarking, and URL-based sharing for collaborative analysis.

Dashboards

Detailed summaries of performance and availability featuring time series graphs, latency distribution charts, and summary metrics for cloud service control and data plane operations, and network performance.

Latency Matrices

Summarized statistical analysis providing median, mean, and percentile performance metrics in matrix format offering comparative views of latency and availability across services, regions, and time periods.

Control Plane

Control plane operations test the responsiveness and reliability of cloud service APIs for creating, modifying, and deleting resources.

Operations Covered

create-record

Creates a TXT record using route53 change-resource-record-sets. Adds _test.domain.com TXT record with 60-second TTL and random test value. Waits up to 5 minutes for record to propagate to all zone nameservers.

Loading availability & performance data...

create-zone

Creates a Route53 hosted zone using route53 create-hosted-zone with a unique domain name. Measures API response time to create the zone and receive the zone ID and nameserver delegation set. Waits up to 5 minutes for NS records to propagate to all nameservers.

Loading availability & performance data...

delete-record

Deletes the TXT record using route53 change-resource-record-sets with DELETE action. Waits up to 5 minutes for record removal to propagate to all nameservers.

Loading availability & performance data...

delete-zone

Deletes a Route53 hosted zone using route53 delete-hosted-zone. Measures API response time for zone deletion and waits for NS records to be removed from nameservers.

Loading availability & performance data...

read-record

Lists all records in the hosted zone using route53 list-resource-record-sets. Validates the test TXT record exists with correct type, TTL, and value.

Loading availability & performance data...

read-zone

Retrieves hosted zone details using route53 get-hosted-zone. Validates zone configuration and nameserver information are returned correctly.

Loading availability & performance data...

update-record

Updates the TXT record using route53 change-resource-record-sets. Changes the record value and waits up to 5 minutes for the update to propagate to all nameservers.

Loading availability & performance data...

update-zone

Updates hosted zone comment using route53 update-hosted-zone-comment. Measures API response time to update zone metadata.

Networking / Last Mile

Cloud Looking Glass serves as a RIPE Atlas anchor host, providing test credits to orchestrate network testing from last-mile sources worldwide. Edge services like Amazon Route 53 are distributed by design, making it essential to measure performance from diverse geographic locations. Our last-mile testing leverages RIPE Atlas probes located in residential and business networks globally, providing real-world connectivity insights. This approach captures the true end-user experience by testing from actual ISP networks rather than data center locations, revealing routing inefficiencies, peering issues, and regional performance variations that impact service quality.

Networking / Synthetic

Synthetic monitoring complements last-mile testing by measuring Amazon Route 53 availability and performance from data center locations. While these tests don't capture end-user experience, they provide consistent baseline measurements from well-connected infrastructure. By testing from cloud service origins across multiple providers and regions, we can detect service outages, routing changes, and inter-provider connectivity issues. These data center vantage points offer stable, high-bandwidth connections that help isolate service-side issues from last-mile network variability.

Synthetic Test Origins

AWS EC2 us-east-1 → Amazon Route 53 / dns

DNS query to test name resolution. Measures DNS lookup time and validates the DNS service is responding.
